Baron Beeching British scientist
and administrator. 

He was chair of the British Railways Board 1963-65, producing the controversial Beeching Report 1963, which advocated concentrating resources on intercity passenger traffic and freight, at the cost of closing many rural and branch lines. Created a baron 1965.
